A team from the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a thorough investigation into the brutal gang-rape of a Spanish woman that occurred in Dumka district on Saturday. The incident has shocked the nation, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities.
The CID team, led by assistant director Santosh Kumar, wasted no time and arrived at Kurmarhat village under the jurisdiction of Hansdiha police station on Sunday morning. Their first task was to visit the crime scene in the Kunji area, where the heinous act took place.
The victim, a Spanish tourist on a bike tour of India with her husband, was staying at a temporary camp in the area on Friday night when the appalling incident unfolded. The CID team meticulously inspected the site in the dense forests where the assault occurred, gathering crucial evidence for their investigation.
Additionally, the CID team engaged with local police officers and personnel who were among the first responders to assist the Spanish woman and her husband after the assault. These officers played a crucial role in ensuring the victims received immediate medical attention and support.
Simultaneously, a separate team from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) of Ranchi arrived at Kurmahat to collect vital forensic evidence from the crime scene. Led by Dr. Robin Minz, the team meticulously gathered items such as a wristwatch, broken helmet parts, and clothing, which will be crucial in establishing the sequence of events and identifying the perpetrators.
Furthermore, another forensic team, led by Nitish Baraik from the neighboring Jamtara district, conducted their own examination of the site, adding to the comprehensive efforts to gather evidence.
Meanwhile, a team from the special branch of the state police, led by DSP Plair Kisku, arrived at the village to gather detailed information from local police officials. This collaborative approach underscores the seriousness with which law enforcement agencies are treating the case.
In a significant development, a Dumka court remanded the three arrested suspects—Rajan Marandi, Pradip Kisku, and Sukhlal Hembrom—to judicial custody. The trio, aged between 20 and 30, faces charges of gang-rape based on the victim’s statement. Following their medical examinations at Phulo Jhano Medical College on Saturday, they were temporarily held at the highly secured Hansdiha Police station before being transferred to jail.
Meanwhile, the police intensified their efforts to track down other individuals allegedly involved in the crime, based on the victim’s detailed complaint. The Spanish woman, a vlogger, provided a comprehensive account of the harrowing ordeal she endured, leading to the registration of a case against seven suspects.
Despite repeated attempts, authorities including Pitambar Singh Kherwar, Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP), and Santosh Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jarmundi, who heads the probe team, remained unavailable for media interactions.
The relentless pursuit of justice by law enforcement agencies and the judicial process provides a glimmer of hope for the victim and sends a strong message against such abhorrent crimes. The nation awaits further developments as the investigation progresses to ensure that the perpetrators face the full force of the law.
