Moto G85 Review: Budget-Friendly Smartphone Bursting With Premium Features
Motorola’s latest entry, the Moto G85, has hit the Indian market and it’s grabbing attention for all the right reasons. Despite being priced under Rs 20,000, this phone flaunts features typically seen in higher-end models. From its sleek design to premium camera capabilities, the Moto G85 is setting a new standard in the budget-friendly segment.
Sleek and Lightweight Design
The first thing you notice upon unboxing the Moto G85 is its impressive design and exceptional light weight. At just 172g and 7.5mm thick, it is one of the slimmest in its category. It easily outdoes many competitors like the Nothing CMF Phone 1, which weighs significantly more at 197g and is 8.2mm thick. The phone’s design gets a solid 10/10 from me.
The back panel is made of vegan leather, available in Olive Green, Urban Grey, and Cobalt Blue. The Olive Green variant is especially striking with its clean, solid color and premium touch. The leather finish gives it a great grip, though it can get dirty around the edges. Thankfully, the transparent case included in the box can help mitigate this.
The dual-camera setup is housed in a stylish rectangular island at the back. A unique touch is the coloured rings around the cameras, adding a splash of character to each color variant. The only downside is the leather back, which might attract dirt, but this is easily solved with the provided case.
Curved Display Under Rs 20,000
One of the standout features is the 6.7-inch pOLED curved display that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate. Curved displays are rare in this price range, making the Moto G85 truly exceptional. The display is also incredibly vibrant with peak brightness at 1600 nits and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, ensuring durability.
It features a punch-hole for the front camera which lights up with a glow animation when it recognizes a registered face. The smoothness of touch and the vibrant visual quality make everyday tasks, gaming, and video streaming a joy. The almost bezel-less design further enhances the screen’s appeal.
Performance That Impresses
Under the hood, the Moto G85 sports a Snapdragon 6 Gen3 chipset with configurations up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Running on Android 14, it promises two years of OS upgrades. Even though the processor might not be the latest, performance remains stable and satisfactory for everyday activities.
Benchmark tests reveal decent scores: 940 for single-core and 2102 for multi-core on Geekbench. In 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme stress test, it achieved impressive stability. Real-world testing, including games like Call of Duty, reaffirms its solid performance, although it heats up quickly but cools down just as fast. The dedicated gaming mode with customizable shortcuts enhances the gaming experience.
Long-lasting Battery
The phone’s 5,000mAh battery ensures it lasts 12-13 hours even with heavy use. The 33W fast charging could be quicker, taking about 80 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%, but the robust battery life compensates for it. Watching videos for 30 minutes only drained 4% of the battery, showcasing its efficiency.
Camera: Perfect for Social Media Enthusiasts
The Moto G85 comes with a dual-camera system featuring a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 sensor with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. It delivers vibrant and clear photos, albeit slightly oversaturated. This makes images pop, often resulting in Instagram-ready photos. The Pro mode offers enhanced control for photography enthusiasts. A minor drawback is the slow shutter speed which may result in blurry candid shots.
The front camera is a 32-megapixel shooter, perfect for high-quality selfies and video calls. Overall, the camera system is reliable and produces quality images that are sure to impress.
Why Choose Moto G85?
Priced at Rs 17,999 with an additional Rs 1,000 discount through Axis Bank, the Moto G85 is a stellar option for budget-conscious buyers. With premium features like a curved display, robust battery, and impressive camera, it clearly punches above its weight. If you are in the market for a budget-friendly device that feels premium, the Moto G85 is worth your consideration.
