Google is Sending Final Reminder to These Users in the US
Are you a user of Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, or the Nest Secure home security system? It’s time to perk up your ears and pay attention because Google has an important message for you. The clock is ticking down to April 8, 2024, the date when these devices will stop working as you know them. Here’s what you need to know.
End of the Line for Older Security Devices
Google has announced that support for Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure will cease on April 8, 2024. If you own any of these devices, you will no longer be able to connect these cameras with the Nest app from this date forward. Moreover, video recording will become a thing of the past, though you will retain access to your video history post-cutoff date.
These devices were launched between 2012 and 2013, and while they’ve served many faithfully over the years, advancements in technology and the hardware limitations of these older models have led Google to make the difficult decision to end support.
Special Offers for Affected Users
Google isn’t leaving its users out in the cold, though. The company has reached out to affected users through emails and in-app messages over the past year, offering special deals based on eligibility. If you haven’t checked your email lately, now might be a good time to do so.
For the Nest Secure users, Google has extended an offer for a Self Setup system from ADT (valued up to $475) or a $200 Google Store credit, both available until May 7, 2024. These offers aim to help users transition to new and updated home security solutions without breaking the bank.
Nest Aware Subscriptions and Nest x Yale Locks
Current Nest Aware subscribers should note that their subscriptions won’t automatically end. If you’re considering canceling your subscription because of these changes, remember to do so through home.nest.com. Be mindful that if your subscription covers other devices in your home, those devices will continue to work, and you might still want to keep your subscription active.
For those with Nest Secure systems linked to Nest x Yale Locks, it’s crucial to understand that once support ends, the Nest Guard keypad won’t be able to connect your lock to Wi-Fi anymore. Google has made provisions for users to receive a Nest Connect at no extra charge if they don’t already have one. This device will help keep your Nest x Yale Lock online after April 8. If you haven’t set up a passcode for your lock, now is the time to do so to ensure you can still access your home without Wi-Fi connectivity.
Preparing for the Transition
With the discontinuation date fast approaching, users of Dropcam, Dropcam Pro, and Nest Secure should start preparing for the transition. Whether it’s taking advantage of Google’s special offers, updating your Nest Aware subscriptions, or ensuring your Nest x Yale Lock remains functional, taking action now will help ensure that your home security needs continue to be met without interruption. And remember, if you’re eligible for any offers from Google, you have until May 7, 2024, to make your claim.
Change is never easy, especially when it concerns the security of our homes. However, with a little preparation and understanding of what steps to take next, users can navigate this transition smoothly and maintain their peace of mind.
