Apple’s New iPad Pro Models: Expected Cost and Launch Date
Apple is gearing up for the anticipated launch of its 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air models in May, bringing significant upgrades and a potential price increase.
Launch Date and Event
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models could launch on May 6. However, unlike past launches, Apple is not expected to host a special event. Instead, the company will likely announce the new products through a press release on its Apple Newsroom website.
iPad Pro: OLED Display and M3 Chip
The new iPad Pro models are rumored to boast powerful M3 chips, OLED displays, a slimmer design, a redesigned rear camera bump, and possibly MagSafe wireless charging. The switch to OLED displays has reportedly delayed the launch due to manufacturing challenges.
Samsung and LG are expected to supply the OLED displays for the 12.9-inch and 11.1-inch iPad Pro models, respectively. OLED technology offers deeper contrast ratios and more vibrant colors, providing an enhanced viewing experience.
iPad Air: M2 Chip and Larger Screen
The iPad Air will also receive an update, with two new models expected. One of the models is expected to feature a larger 12.9-inch display, a first for the iPad Air line. Both iPad Air models are rumored to include the M2 chip, a landscape-oriented front camera, and a slimmer design.
Price Increase for iPad Pro
The new iPad Pro models are anticipated to come with a price increase due to the more expensive OLED display technology. Early rumors suggested a starting price of around $2,000 for the 12.9-inch model. However, recent reports suggest a more modest increase of around $160. This would bring the starting price to approximately $1,500.
New Accessories
Alongside the new iPads, Apple is expected to announce a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro, featuring a larger trackpad and a partially aluminum enclosure. A new Apple Pencil is also rumored to be in the works, complementing the new iPad lineup.
