VPN by Google Causing Website and App Failures on Pixel Devices
Attention, Pixel users! If you’ve been experiencing difficulties with certain apps and websites not loading on your device, the culprit could be VPN by Google.
What’s Happening?
Over the past few days, some Pixel users have reported that websites and apps, such as Amazon and Prime Video, fail to load when VPN by Google is enabled. However, other services, like Wikipedia and Google, work as expected.
The issue doesn’t seem to be widespread, and other devices connected to VPN by Google appear to be unaffected. Disabling the VPN immediately resolves the problem.
What to Do
- Disable the VPN: If you’re facing this issue, simply disabling VPN by Google should restore access to affected websites and apps.
- Exclude Critical Apps: You can also exclude apps that you need to work from the VPN connection. To do this, go to Settings > Network & internet > VPN > VPN by Google > App exceptions.

It’s important to note that the issue affects both the Pixel-exclusive VPN by Google and the soon-to-be-deprecated VPN by Google One (on all form factors).

- VPN by Google One Shutdown: As of June 21, VPN by Google One has been shut down.
- Issue Resolved for Some Users: After disabling and re-enabling the VPN, some users have reported that the issue has resolved.
- Ongoing Issues: A few users continue to experience problems with certain websites and apps when VPN by Google is enabled.
