Hawks coach Sam Mitchell was pleased with his team’s performance, particularly their ability to grind out a win against a quality opponent.
“We’re really happy with the win,” Mitchell said. “We knew it was going to be a tough game, and St Kilda played really well. But we were able to stay focused and get the job done.
“Karl Amon was outstanding for us today. He was everywhere, and he made some really important plays. And Dylan Moore is continuing to impress. He’s a young player with a lot of potential, and he’s showing that every week.”
Saints coach Brett Ratten was disappointed with the result but praised his team’s effort.
“We’re disappointed with the loss, but we can’t fault the effort of our players,” Ratten said. “They gave it everything they had, but Hawthorn was just too good on the day.
“Rowan Marshall was outstanding for us again today. He’s been in great form all season, and he’s one of the best ruckmen in the competition. Jack Billings was also good, and he’s starting to find some form.”
