Age Bracket for the 2025 London Marathon

The 2025 London Marathon will introduce a new age bracket for runners aged 85-90. This bracket is particularly significant for Pat, who will turn 85 next year. With an additional hour to complete the course in her new age group, she is optimistic about her chances.

Pat’s Running Journey

Pat began running in her 40s, meeting a friend for morning jogs. Inspired by friends’ participation in the Reading half marathon, she ran her first London Marathon in 1987. “I sort of snowballed from there,” she says.

Unplanned Marathons

Pat’s running adventures have even included two unplanned marathons in Australia. While visiting for the Gold Coast Marathon in Melbourne, she discovered another marathon taking place the following day and promptly signed up. She also took on the Sydney Marathon before returning home.

Inspirational Figure

Pat has become an inspirational figure in the running community. She credits the running boom of the 1980s for sparking her passion. “Look what’s happened now with Parkrun, there’s millions of people,” she observes. Despite her age, she remains a respected presence in races, with other runners following her lead to complete the course.

Looking Ahead

As she prepares for the 2025 London Marathon, Pat is excited to enter the 85-90 age bracket. “Once I’m 85, I think it’s seven hours,” she says. “It’ll take me seven hours to get round now.”

Pat’s remarkable journey is a testament to her determination and the power of running. Her upcoming marathon will not only be a personal milestone but also a testament to the inclusive spirit of the London Marathon and the transformative power of sport.
