2024 The Coast at Newcastle: Mick Price, Michael Kent Jr on hit-run mission
Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr are heading to Newcastle on Saturday with plenty of confidence, as they look to continue their winning ways with a trio of favored horses in the upcoming The Coast race.
Golden Path: “Enormous” improvement
Leading the charge for the Price-Kent stable is Golden Path, who has impressed the trainers with his recent progress.
“He’s just gone enormous,” said Price. “His work has been outstanding, and he’s really come on in leaps and bounds.”
Golden Path will be making his second start of the preparation, having run a solid second behind subsequent winner Sir Ravanelli in the Anniversary Highway at Kembla Grange on January 28.
“He ran really well fresh, and we think he’s improved a lot since then,” added Kent Jr. “He’s a horse with plenty of ability, and we’re expecting a big run from him.”
Hezashocka: A definite winning chance
Another horse that the stable is excited about is Hezashocka, who will be stepping out in the Gosford Gold Cup.
“He’s a definite winning chance,” said Price. “He’s a horse who is always around the mark, and he loves the wet track.”
Hezashocka has won twice at Newcastle, including the Group 3 Spring Stakes in 2022, and he will be looking to add to his tally on Saturday.
“He’s drawn a good barrier and he’s got a good jockey on board,” added Kent Jr. “Everything is in place for him to run a big race.”
Grand Impact: A mudlark in the making
The third horse that the Price-Kent stable is looking forward to is Grand Impact, who has been installed as a favorite in The Coast.
“He’s a mudlark,” said Price. “He loves the wet, and he’s a horse who is always thereabouts.”
Grand Impact has won five of his 12 starts, and he has placed in another five. He was last seen finishing second in the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick on January 21.
“He’s a horse who is always competitive, and we think he’s a good chance to win on Saturday,” added Kent Jr. “He’s got a great racing style, and he’s always there to be run down.”
With a strong hand of horses in the feature races, Price and Kent Jr are confident of having a successful day at Newcastle.
“We’re really happy with the way our horses are going, and we’re expecting them to run well,” said Price. “We’re looking forward to a big day.”
