Jaws Returns: Texas Beach Turns Red After Shark Attacks
July 5, 2024
Horrifying footage has emerged of a Texas beach turning red with blood after four people were attacked by a shark during Fourth of July celebrations.
Multiple Attacks
The attacks occurred within hours of each other off South Padre Island. Four individuals encountered the shark, resulting in two confirmed bites.
Severe Injuries
One of the victims, a woman, was severely injured. Good Samaritans dragged her out of the water as blood gushed from her leg. The victim’s calf was “shredded,” according to an eyewitness.
Unprecedented Incident
Fire Chief Jim Pigg called the attacks “unprecedented” on South Padre Island. “Shark encounters of this nature are not a common occurrence in Texas,” said the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Shark’s Behavior
Based on eyewitness accounts and social media images, authorities believe a single shark, approximately 6 feet long, was responsible for the attacks.
Witness Accounts
One beachgoer reported seeing the shark swimming near the shoreline, while another described feeling it brush against them.
Response by Authorities
Police and fire department personnel used drones to patrol the beach following the attacks. Drones and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter were deployed to locate and push the shark into deeper water.
Type of Shark
Authorities have not yet determined the type of shark involved, but investigations are underway.
Danger to Swimmers
Lifeguards are urging beachgoers to stay out of the water or limit their swimming to shallow areas.
Public Concern
The attacks have raised concerns among locals and tourists about the safety of swimming in Texas waters. Shark attacks are rare in Texas, but experts remind beachgoers to be aware of their surroundings and take precautions, such as swimming in groups and avoiding swimming in areas known for shark sightings.
