Reece James Promises “More Hungry than Ever” Return to Chelsea Amidst Injury
Chelsea captain Reece James has taken to social media to assure fans that his recovery from a hamstring injury is progressing well, with a defiant message that he is “more hungry than ever” to return to the pitch.
A Long and Arduous Journey
James, who has been sidelined since December due to a recurring hamstring issue, revealed in an Instagram story that the road to recovery has been “long and tough.” Nevertheless, he emphasized his determination to overcome the challenge.
“I’ve been gone a while but I’m doing well. Really well. The journey has been long and tough but nothing I couldn’t handle,” James wrote.
The Comeback Is On
Despite the setbacks, James remains optimistic about his return and has hinted that he is nearing a comeback. He stated: “I’m in a good place, the comeback is on, more hungry than ever.”
Uncertain Timeline
However, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been cautious about setting a specific timeline for James’ return. In a recent press conference, Pochettino admitted that he was “not sure” whether the 24-year-old would feature again this season.
“No, I don’t know,” Pochettino replied when asked about James’ potential availability. “It’s difficult to say something because I don’t want you to go, ‘oh, [you said this].’ We will assess it week by week and we will see. We hope yes, we hope that he will be available for the end of the season.”
Chelsea’s Positive Form
Despite James’ absence, Chelsea has enjoyed a recent resurgence in form. They have won their last three matches in all competitions, including a resounding 6-0 victory over Everton on Monday.
“An amazing performance,” Pochettino said after the victory. “I’m so happy and full credit to the players. The perfect game, I think. We scored six and kept a clean sheet – a dream come true!”
Next Challenges
Chelsea will face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. It is their last chance of winning silverware this season, having lost the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool and sitting 26 points behind league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League.
Whether or not James will be fit enough to play any role in the end-of-season battles remains uncertain. However, his positive message and the progress he has made in his recovery will offer hope to Chelsea fans that he may yet be able to contribute to the team’s remaining challenges.
