Liverpool told why Man City have ‘great advantage’ in Premier League run-in as ex-Reds boss Rafa Benitez gives title verdict
Liverpool’s quest for the Premier League title suffered a significant setback following their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s title hopes were dealt a blow as they were stunned by two late Aston Villa goals, losing 2-0 at home.
These results have handed the initiative in the title race to defending champions Manchester City, who now have a two-point advantage at the top of the table.
Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes that Manchester City now have a “great advantage” in the title race, given their upcoming fixture schedule.
“Manchester City have a great advantage now,” Benitez told Sky Sports. “They have a game in hand, and they have a run of fixtures that is more favorable than Liverpool and Arsenal.”
“Liverpool have a tough run of games coming up, with matches against Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea. Arsenal also have a difficult run-in, with matches against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle.”
With six games remaining in the Premier League season, Manchester City will face Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Manchester United, and Aston Villa.
Liverpool’s remaining fixtures include matches against Fulham, Crystal Palace (away), Manchester United (away), Everton, Chelsea (away), and Wolves.
Arsenal’s remaining fixtures include matches against Southampton, Crystal Palace (away), Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Newcastle United.
While Manchester City currently hold the advantage in the title race, Benitez believes that anything can happen in the remaining games.
“The title race is not over yet,” Benitez said. “There are still a lot of points to play for, and anything can happen.”
“Liverpool and Arsenal need to keep winning their games and hope that Manchester City drop points.”
“It will be a fascinating finish to the season.”
