The United States and India have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening military cooperation under the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) to ensure continued stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Accelerating Operational Activities

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized the need to bolster India’s military capabilities to maintain a stable balance of power in the region. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance maritime security, including joint exercises and information-sharing.

Enhancing Interoperability

The two countries are expanding their cooperation in the air domain. US B-1B bombers participated in India’s AERO INDIA air show, and joint air exercise COPE INDIA further strengthens interoperability. Additionally, the largest-ever joint amphibious exercise, TIGER TRIUMPH, improves maritime domain awareness and service-to-service ties.

Deepening Logistics Cooperation

The US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) aims to strengthen cooperation under LEMOA, which enables regular and flexible engagements in the Indian Ocean region. Two new Master Ship Repair Agreements have been signed, allowing US ships to undergo maintenance and repair in Indian shipyards.

Commander of USINDOPACOM, Admiral John C Aquilino, stressed the significance of the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. The Commander highlighted initiatives such as the INDUS-X program and a roadmap for US-India Defence Industrial Cooperation to enhance bilateral defense cooperation and innovation.
