The marketplace, which facilitated transactions totaling over $80 million in cryptocurrency, has been a major conduit for the sale and distribution of various controlled substances.
A Thriving Hub for Narcotics
Incognito Market operated as a platform where customers could connect with vendors offering a wide array of prohibited drugs. The marketplace did not directly engage in drug sales, but it provided an anonymous and secure forum for buyers and sellers to interact. The platform facilitated the sale of over 364 kilograms of cocaine, 295 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 92 kilograms of MDMA, among other illegal substances.
Modus Operandi
To participate in Incognito Market, vendors had to pay a $750 fee, while customers registered without charge. The marketplace charged a 5% commission on each drug transaction, generating substantial revenue for its operators. The FBI investigation revealed that the platform had over 200,000 registered users and at least one other employee assisting the administrator.
Arrest and Charges
Rui-Siang Lin, a Taiwanese national known as Pharoah, was arrested on May 18 at John F. Kennedy Airport. The FBI charged Lin with various offenses, including continuing criminal enterprise, narcotics conspiracy, and money laundering. He faces the prospect of significant prison time.
