**Upcoming Session Dates and Agenda of UPR Working Group in Geneva**
Mr. Goldsmith, the Justice Minister, is set to face intense scrutiny regarding NZ’s human rights track record at the UN later today. Catherine McGregor’s excerpt from “The Universal Periodic Review to Probe Yemen’s Human Rights Record” sheds light on the significant event.

Session Dates and Location

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group under the UN Human Rights Council will conduct a series of reviews from April 29th to May 10th, 2024. Yemen, along with 13 other nations, will undergo scrutiny during this session.

The review of Yemen’s human rights record is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The session will commence at 14:30 and conclude at 18:00 (Geneva time, GMT+2).

Reviewing Yemen’s Human Rights Record

The UPR Working Group, composed of 47 Member States of the Human Rights Council, will examine Yemen’s human rights situation. All 193 UN Member States have the opportunity to participate in the country review.

The review is based on three key documents: Yemen’s national report, independent reports from human rights experts and groups, and other UN entities, as well as submissions from stakeholders such as national human rights institutions, regional organizations, and civil society groups.

High-Level Delegation and Rapporteurs

The delegation from Yemen will be led by Ahmed Omar Mohammed Arman, the Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights. Luxembourg, Maldives, and South Africa will serve as the three country representatives or “troika” for the review.

Public Participation and Webcast

The session will be webcast live, allowing the public to follow the proceedings online at https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1j/k1jjzadukx.

A list of speakers and available statements for Yemen’s review will be posted on the UPR Extranet.

Recommendations and Conclusion

Following Yemen’s review, the UPR Working Group is expected to formulate recommendations. Yemen may then choose to express its stance on these recommendations.

The Working Group’s adoption of the recommendations is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, between 15:30 and 18:00 (GMT +2).
