143 Dead In Russia Terror Attack, All 4 Gunmen Among 11 Arrested
In a shocking turn of events that has left the world in disbelief, Russia faced one of its darkest days following a brutal attack on a Moscow concert hall, leading to an unspeakable tragedy. The death toll has gruesomely climbed to 143, with the assailants, four gunmen among 11 individuals, now detained in connection to the incident.
Putin Denounces the Attack as ‘Barbaric’
Russian President Vladimir Putin vehemently condemned the attack, labeling it a ‘barbaric terrorist act’. In a heartfelt address to the nation, Putin announced March 24 as a day of mourning to honor the innocent lives lost. “I am speaking to you today in connection with the bloody, barbaric terrorist act, the victims of which were dozens of innocent, peaceful people… I declare March 24 a day of national mourning,” stated Putin. The Russian leader promised stern retribution towards those responsible for the heinous act and highlighted the arrest of the four perpetrators who carried out the killings.
Was Ukraine Involved?
In his first remarks since the devastating episode, President Putin hinted at a possible Ukrainian connection to the Moscow attack. He revealed that preliminary information suggested the four detained attackers had aimed to flee toward Ukraine, and some individuals on the Ukrainian side appeared ready to assist their escape across the border.
However, these claims were strongly refuted by a spokesperson from Kyiv’s military intelligence, who assured that Ukraine had no involvement in the attack, describing the Russian suggestions as unfounded and disconnected from reality. “This is of course another lie from the Russian special services, which has nothing in common with reality… Ukraine was of course not involved in this terror attack,” said Andriy Yusov, from Ukraine’s defence ministry’s main directorate of intelligence.
A Night of Terror in Moscow
The attack unfolded on a peaceful evening at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow, where patrons had gathered to enjoy a performance by a beloved Soviet-era rock group. Armed individuals stormed the venue, opening fire on the unsuspecting crowd, and detonating explosives. The attackers went as far as to set the concert hall ablaze, further escalating the horror of the night.
The ensuing chaos and loss of life have been recounted by numerous eyewitnesses, their stories painting a grim picture of the terror inflicted. Social media has been flooded with footage showing attackers firing at point-blank range, as well as the resulting inferno that consumed the venue.
Amidst the turmoil, Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the tragic event, albeit without offering any concrete evidence to substantiate their involvement. This claim adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted situation, leaving more questions than answers in its wake.
In response to the attack, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev issued a daunting message to terrorists, emphasizing a stance of zero tolerance. “Terrorists understand only terror in response. No trials or investigations will help if force is not countered with force,” declared Medvedev. As the aftermath of the Moscow concert hall shooting continues to unfold, the world watches, waiting for truth and justice to prevail in the face of such senseless violence.
