An Apple Watch’s durability and the kindness of a stranger led to an amazing reunion for YouTuber Jared Brick.

Imagine losing a cherished device in the ocean and having it returned to you in perfect working condition nearly two years later. That’s exactly what happened to YouTuber Jared Brick, who lost his Apple Watch while on a family vacation but managed to get it back thanks to a combination of technology and human goodwill.

An Unforgettable Family Trip

In the summer of 2022, Brick and his family traveled to the British Virgin Islands to celebrate his son’s 11th birthday. Their vacation agenda was packed with adventure, including scuba diving expeditions. To stay connected underwater, Brick bought Apple Watches for both himself and his son. These watches were not just for checking the time but also for tracking their dives, some of which went over 100 feet deep.

The Apple Watch can function underwater up to a depth of 50 meters, or 164 feet. Everything worked perfectly during their underwater adventures, capturing the essence of their trip. Little did Brick know, their trip would be memorable for more than just its beautiful moments.

The Unfortunate Loss

On the last day of their trip, Brick found himself at a stunning location known as The Baths on Virgin Gorda. He was enthusiastically jumping off boulders into shallow waters while a friend filmed the fun. It was only later that he realized his beloved Apple Watch was no longer on his wrist.

The location’s natural beauty preoccupied him so much initially that he didn’t immediately notice the watch was missing. Once he realized it, he acted quickly. He used another Apple device to report the watch as lost using Apple’s Find My feature. The app showed a map pinpointing where the watch had gone missing. Unfortunately, being no longer in the area, Brick assumed his watch was now forever claimed by the sea.

The Unexpected Call

Fast forward to December 2023, eighteen months after the watch disappeared. Brick received a surprising call from a local resident named Jonathan, who lived in Virgin Gorda. Jonathan had stumbled upon the watch on the same beach Brick had visited. Upon charging it, the lost message with Brick’s phone number appeared on the screen.

Realizing the importance of the discovery, Jonathan contacted Brick and even sent him a photo to confirm it was indeed his watch. Acting on his kind intentions, Jonathan went a step further to mail the Apple Watch back to Brick, who resides in Felton, California.

A Heartwarming Reunion

April 2024 marked almost 22 months since the Apple Watch had been lost. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Brick captured the moment he finally received the watch back. With a mix of excitement and disbelief, he opened the envelope to find the watch in good working order despite its prolonged underwater stay and the 3,600-mile journey back to California.

Gratitude and Praise

In his video, Brick expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Jonathan for his honesty and effort. “So big thank you to Jonathan in the Caribbean for finding it, contacting me, and shipping it back to me,” Brick said. He also praised Apple for creating such durable technology. “Thanks to Apple for making amazing technology that works,” he added.

This incredible tale highlights two essential things: the remarkable durability of the Apple Watch and the goodness that still exists in the world. Brick’s gratitude was palpable as he shared his story, and it’s a reminder of how technology and human kindness can come together to create truly magical moments.
