Why Freddie Prinze, Jr. Criticized Dexter Lumis in WWE
Former WWE superstar Dexter Lumis has been away from television since May 2023, and his absence has sparked speculation about his future with the company. One person who has been vocal about Lumis’s absence is former WWE writer Freddie Prinze, Jr.
Freddie Prinze, Jr.’s Critique
Speaking on his podcast Wrestling With Freddie, Prinze, Jr. openly admitted that he was not a fan of Lumis’s first feud on the main roster, which was against The Miz. Prinze, Jr. said that he neither found Lumis’s character funny nor enjoyed his segments with The Miz in general.
Prinze, Jr. referenced one particular segment, in which Lumis disguised himself as a hockey player. He likened the feud to a 1980s feature film, Mannequin.
“Miz had a hundred thousand bodyguards with him, and then when they cut back all the bodyguards are dead. They were in Canada, there was a statue of a hockey player behind him, and of course it was Dexter Lumis. And it reminded me of the 80s movie Mannequin, with Dexter Lumis cast in the Kim Cattrall roll,” Prinze, Jr. said.
Lumis’s Main Roster Run
Lumis was called up to the main roster in 2022 and initially aligned himself with The Miz. However, the two eventually turned on each other, and Lumis began feuding with The Miz. Their feud culminated in December 2022 with The Miz picking up a win over Lumis in a Ladder Match. The A-Lister was assisted by the returning Bronson Reed.
Lumis’s Future
It is unclear when Lumis will return to WWE television. However, he has been posting photos and videos of himself working out on social media, which indicates that he is preparing for a return. It is possible that Lumis could return to WWE as early as this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW.
