What Is the Speed Limit of Ferrari LaFerrari Prototype Being Auctioned Off?

Ferrari LaFerrari Prototype: A Collector’s Item with Limited Speed

The allure of owning a Ferrari is undeniable, and the excitement intensifies when it comes to a rare prototype. A third and final phase factory prototype of the iconic LaFerrari is now up for auction, offering a unique opportunity to add a piece of Ferrari’s history to your collection.

A Testable Masterpiece

This 2014 LaFerrari prototype, internally known as the “F150 Prototipo Preserve PS1,” is a fully functional test mule that underwent rigorous testing during the development of the production model. It features a striking color combination of Rosso Corsa (red), Matte Black, and white, setting it apart from its production counterparts.

Interior Extravaganza

The cabin echoes the exterior’s unique theme with red leather seats adorned with contrasting black piping. The dashboard is upholstered in black Alcantara and carbon fiber, creating a sophisticated and sporty environment.

Power Under the Hood

At the heart of this LaFerrari prototype lies a potent 6.3-liter Type F140FE V12 engine with prototype components. This naturally aspirated powerhouse, assisted by two electric motors developed in partnership with Magneti Marelli, unleashes a combined 950 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

Speed Restricted

Despite its impressive powertrain, this particular prototype has a substantial limitation: it is not street legal. The vehicle’s speed is electronically restricted to 30 mph (48 kph), rendering it unsuitable for road use.

Exclusivity and Value

While the road-legal LaFerrari is an exclusive supercar with only 500 coupes and 210 Aperta convertibles produced, prototypes are even rarer. Ferrari typically builds a limited number of prototypes, and few escape destruction or display in the company’s museum.

Auction Details

The LaFerrari prototype is being auctioned off by Supercar Blondie’s dealership in Dubai. With two days remaining, bidding has already surpassed $400,000, approximately half the price of a production LaFerrari. The highest price paid for a LaFerrari was $5,360,000, but that particular vehicle was driveable.

The Bottom Line

This LaFerrari prototype is an exceptional collector’s item for those seeking a piece of Ferrari’s history. While it may not be suitable for high-speed adventures, it offers a unique opportunity to own a rare and exclusive masterpiece from the legendary Italian automaker.
