What impact did Loreen feel when Johnny Logan performed Euphoria on stage in the Eurovision semi-finals?

Loreen says Johnny Logan made Euphoria ‘his own’ in Eurovision semi-finals performance

Loreen has applauded Johnny Logan for singing her winning Eurovision Song Contest track Euphoria on stage during the 2024 competition.

The 40-year-old singer told the PA news agency that she was “honoured” by Logan’s rendition of the song, which he performed during the semi-finals in Liverpool.

Touching Moment

Logan, who won the Eurovision Song Contest twice in 1980 and 1987, brought the audience to their feet with his emotional performance, which Loreen described as “touching”.

“It was a beautiful moment,” she said. “I was so happy that he wanted to sing it. It was a big honour for me.”

A Different Interpretation

While Logan’s version of Euphoria was slower and more stripped-back than Loreen’s original, she said she appreciated his unique interpretation of the song.

“He made it his own,” she said. “That’s what I love about music. It’s open to interpretation. I think he did a beautiful job.”

Logan’s Winning History

Logan is one of only a handful of artists to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice. His first victory came in 1980 with the song What’s Another Year, and he followed it up with Hold Me Now in 1987.

He is also known for writing the winning song for Linda Martin in 1992, Why Me?, and for representing Ireland in the contest on several other occasions.

Loreen’s Eurovision Triumph

Loreen won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with Euphoria, a powerful dance-pop anthem that became a global hit.

The song was praised for its catchy melody and its empowering lyrics, and it helped to raise Loreen’s profile around the world.

Reflecting on the Performance

Looking back on Logan’s performance, Loreen said it was a reminder of the power of music to bring people together.

“Music is a universal language,” she said. “It can connect people from all walks of life. I think that’s what Eurovision is all about. It’s a celebration of diversity and unity.”
