Neighbours Legend Harold Bishop Set to Return to Ramsay Street Full Time
Beloved Character to Make Yet Another Comeback
Fans of the iconic Australian soap opera Neighbours are in for a treat, as it has been confirmed that Harold Bishop, played by Ian Smith, will be returning to Ramsay Street on a full-time basis.
A Familiar Face Returns
Harold, one of the most recognizable faces of the show, will be making his return some 15 years after his departure as a regular character. In a statement posted on social media, Neighbours revealed, After 15 years of living away, the legendary Harold Bishop is returning to Erinsborough.
A Long and Storied History
Smith, now 85 years old, first joined Neighbours in 1987 as the former flame of Madge Mitchell (Anne Charleston). The two later married, but tragedy struck in 1991 when Harold was presumed dead after being washed out to sea on vacation.
However, in true soap opera fashion, Harold returned in 1996 and remained on the show until 2009. During his time, he experienced a series of dramatic events, including a burglary, a personality-altering stroke, and an attempt to strangle the man he held responsible for his son’s death in a plane crash.
A Full-Time Comeback
Since his exit, Harold has made brief guest appearances on Neighbours, including in 2022’s presumed final episode before the show was revived by streaming channel Amazon Freevee. However, this is the first time since 2009 that Smith’s return has been indefinite.
Despite his desire to retire, expressed on Australian television, Smith remains the longest-serving actor on Neighbours, having first appeared 37 years ago.
