## Baker Hughes Fuels Italy’s Green Drive with Hydrogen-Ready Technology
As the world strives towards a cleaner and more sustainable future, the energy sector plays a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate change. Baker Hughes, a global leader in the oil and gas industry, is partnering with Snam, Italy’s leading energy infrastructure company, to drive the decarbonization of the country’s gas network.
### Hydrogen as a Clean Energy Solution
Hydrogen is a promising clean energy source that can potentially replace fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is produced through a process called electrolysis, which uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The resulting hydrogen can then be used as a fuel for power generation, transportation, or industrial processes.
### Baker Hughes’ Hydrogen-Ready Technology
Baker Hughes is at the forefront of developing innovative hydrogen technologies. The company’s NovaLT™12 gas turbine is a key component in Snam’s efforts to decarbonize its gas network. The turbine can operate on a blend of natural gas and hydrogen, with the capability to run on 100% hydrogen in the future.
### Decarbonizing the Italian Gas Network
Snam’s new gas compressor station in Sulmona, Italy, will be equipped with three NovaLT™12 turbines. These turbines will provide the necessary compression to transport natural gas and hydrogen along the Adriatic Line, a key pipeline that connects Italy to other European countries. The use of hydrogen-ready turbines represents a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the Italian gas network.
“Our work with Snam is part of our commitment to developing innovative technology solutions that enable the decarbonization of energy ecosystems and the creation of the hydrogen economy,” said Ganesh Ramaswamy, Executive Vice President, Industrial & Energy Technology at Baker Hughes.
### A Greener Future for Italy
The partnership between Baker Hughes and Snam is a testament to the growing importance of hydrogen in the clean energy transition. By providing hydrogen-ready technology for the Italian gas network, Baker Hughes is helping to decarbonize the energy infrastructure and support Italy’s transition to a more sustainable future.
